Session 1 - The Desire to Enjoy
Humanity is in the midst of an evolutionary process, constantly changing, even as it all unfolds. Through our development from generation to generation over thousands of years, we've come to a very special situation:
We exist together on planet Earth as one great global, interconnected society.
As we have evolved, we have acquired knowledge, capabilities, and the power to obtain many things, sensations, and perceptions we did not previously possess.
Through all the states of change we've been through, we've experienced various manners of development, even some that are unpleasant. We continue aiming for the end of our evolution, where all the forms we have come through will lead us into the perfect state. Yet, while we are still in the midst of evolving and do not fully see the end of this process, we continue to labor and hope that soon we will experience the good state. Our collective study comes to teach us what we must do to ensure that we undergo a good and easy development into an enlightened, good state—a state of confidence, prosperity, and a good life.
As we evolve, we experience all kinds of states that we cannot really control. We change our lives—arrange them so they are more convenient for us—we change society, family life, education, culture, and human relationships. We try to bring ourselves into a state that is as good and comfortable as possible because at the very root of each of us is a desire to enjoy.
We evolve gradually, using the means at our disposal at each step. As we evolve, we naturally wish to change life. Through science, we study Nature—what we can get out of it, how to set up ourselves accordingly, and how to keep ourselves in line with Nature's laws.
We learn in what areas we are dependent on Nature, such as the seasons and the climate, and in what areas we are dependent on our human nature—that we need to care for our health. We arrange for ourselves a domestic technological environment—washing machines, dryers, ovens, and so on. Thus, first we make sure we have as good and as comfortable an environment as possible. In this way, we try to escape the minuscule personal sufferings and the mammoth global suffering as much as we can.
In addition, we try to advance toward the good, and enjoy every situation. It is human nature to always seek pleasure, comfort, and enjoyment, and we try to use every means possible for advancing toward it.

"An argument from globalization is that the financial crisis has been a reminder of how we now really live in "one world" in economic, cultural, social and political terms. In this sense it can be argued that we need scenarios of cooperation with new interactions between major powers in the international community, which is establishing a regime of problem solving rather than confrontation."Nordicum-Mediterraneum: Icelandic E-Journal of Nordic and Mediterranean Studies, Vol. 6, no. 1 (2011), Conference Paper: "Emergence of a new paradigm: Towards a post-crisis cosmopolitanism"
"...when needs in a higher category [of Maslow's needs pyramid] are not met then individuals redouble the efforts invested in a lower category need. For example if self-actualization or self-esteem is not met then individuals will invest more effort in the relatedness category in the hopes of achieving the higher need. "Wikipedia
