Session 2 – Wanted: Good Parents
We look at the evolution of desires as if it is happening, somehow by chance. We are like parents who look at their child and wonder, "Where did it come from?" "Why?" "What for?" "How do we rear our child?" "What kind of education should we choose?" "Should he or she have company, perhaps a kindergarten?" It's as if we don't know anything about our children, and how they develop.×
How does such a baby grow? By chance? A baby doesn't have sufficient natural drive to grow toward good things. We provide our children with knowledge, sensations, music, education, reading, writing, and so forth. They are in a world that is 100% artificial. Our natural world is the same as that of animals. Our addition to the natural world is the human degree, the "speaking" level.
Look at humanity. It evolves from generation to generation without anyone making sure it evolves correctly. Indeed, this is what our world looks like. As we evolve, each new, more evolved generation becomes more miserable, more deficient.
On the one hand we want more technology and gadgets in our lives, but on the other hand, we're growing emptier. And now, what have we achieved? What has all of our development given us? We've reached outer space, we've sent spaceships to Mars, we've landed on the moon, but we don't know how to make ourselves happy. We're in a deep crisis, families are falling apart, there are divorces, children suffer, parents suffer, society suffers from terrorism and drugs. Where's the joy, the happiness? Depression is the most common illness in the world.
It turns out that humanity doesn't have "good parents" to take care of us and teach us how to develop.

Technological development is not enough. Humanity lacks guidance on how to develop a good sensation of fulfillment and satisfaction in life.
- The role of parents is to provide their children with the means for a development that by themselves, they have no desire for, so that they do not remain as animals, but rather grow up to be humans.
- The crisis we are experiencing shows us that humanity lacks guides that will direct us how to develop.
"While our ability to affect the future is immense, our ability to foresee the results of our environmental interventions is not. I think that our moral responsibility grows with foresight. And yet, paradoxically in some cases grave moral responsibility is entailed by the fact of one's ignorance.".Article 10.1: "Apology for Environmental Anthropocentrism"
"We're more anxious and depressed than ever before and the situation is worsening rather than getting better. The argument that modern technology would one day protect us from ill-health and distress and open up a world of leisure and, by implication greater happiness, is looking decidedly dated.".Article: "Reflections on Depression and Modern Life"
"Much of the young generation turns to acts of violence because of feelings of lack of purpose/meaning in life and because they are not receiving this positive meaningful society environment they turn to other means to try and fill this lack'Dr. Garbarino quote from an Article by Susan Lang entitled: "Garbarino discusses youth violence, prevention strategies in new book"
"At present, mental depression is one of the top ten most frequently occurring illnesses, and predictions indicate that by 2020 it will occupy second place."Paper: "Anxiety and Uncertainty in Modern Society"
